Materials used to build the Jacquard High School

The environmental quality of a building generally aims to take into account the three

"pillars" of sustainable development and issues; environmental, social and economic,

in the building's life cycle.

The insulating materials are on the outside of buildings, the use of prairie grass instead

of lawn, the grassland mowing is done twice a year. The use of green roofs can retain

rain water, which is filtered to finally be returned to the ponds that fill with waterfall

which facilitates water drainage and avoids spillage of water for the city of Caudry an

environmental asset that also benefits the city.

The insulating materials are on the outside of buildings, the school was built in 2000

by the Belgian architect Lucien Kroll, following the standards called HQE (High

Environmental Quality).

The materials used for construction:

Some of the environmental initiatives related to school:

-balance embankment-excavation.

-heavy materials produced within 200 km of the site.

-materials with low energy load, durable delavables without treatment; safety for health.

-PVC limited amount of 2.5 tons.

-Building flexibility and neutrality with large modular spaces (convertible Building housing).

-thermal comfort: external insulation, elimination of thermal bridges, sunscreen berries.

A HEQ Secondary school through water saving

(By Alizard Faustine and Bivouac Melyssa)

The Energy Systems

By Blondiaux Romane  and Billoir Pauline

In our high school there are energy systems as:

-  Photovoltaic panels which cover 2.2 % of the electric needs.

-Boiler room high-performance gas (a boiler condensation and a high yield).

-Energy-saving lamps but there are some drawbacks because the lamps ignite when there is a movement but for examples

if there isn’t any movements the lights go out while the pupils have a test. So the students are in the dark.

What is the telethon?

A telethon is a 30-hour TV program which aims to raise funds for charity. This concept appeared in

the US in the 1950s, first to help polio patients. Usually, many artists (singers, musicians, actors)

support the cause and call the public to make donations.

Telethon in France:

In France, the Telethon has been organized since 1987 by the French Association against myopathy

(AFM) to finance research projects on genetic neuromuscular diseases, but also on other rare genetic

diseases. The money is also used to help and support essentially myopathy patients. The Telethon is

organized with France Télévision which sets up each year a television marathon on its channel.

Famous people who have participated in the telethon.

The telethon in Jacquard

In our country, the telethon is very important for the people.

It’s the day when the people are united. This year the telethon

took place on Saturday December 5th 2015.

In our school, we celebrated the telethon on Friday December 4th.

This day is a way to show that the students are involved.

It was last week, the school had decided to organize activities to

collect money.

For example there was one classroom where the students could

play at the new fifa videogame, then there was one classroom

where we could play at the videogame “Mario Karts” in the same

room, we could do an arm wrestling.

And there were a lot of other things for example the sale of tarts

pies and/or cakes, the room where we could do a photograph for

A lot of students of the school have participated in the telethon

which was a success.

Back in Paris, she multiplies love affairs. Her parents split up so that her father

left home. She has to face the hostility of her mother and brother. Her

marriage ended in failure. After reviewing her father, she left with a lover in the

United States.

Outing at the sugar refinery in Escaudoeuvres.

On friday, 12th december 2015, we went to the sugar refinery in Escaudoeuvres,

near Cambrai.

The sugar refinery is used to make sugar. For this, we need sugar beet.

The sugar refinery is very big, so we couldn't visit everything.

We started the visit with the unloading of beet. Afterwards, we saw the washing,

the cutting and the mixing of the beet.

Then we went up several floors and we saw the sugar heating. It was hot and smelt bad.

This visit was very interesting ; we learnt a lot.
